Live Your Life With Purpose

What are you living for? This may sound like a bit of a strange question, but when did you last think about what matters most to you? Keep reading to find out why this can be a powerful exercise to help you live a happier, healthier life.

What Does It Mean to Live A Life with Purpose?

Sometimes life gets so busy that it feels like you’re just going through the motions. Running here and there to accomplish tasks on your to-do list, you may lose touch with the reason behind all you’re doing.

Have you ever found yourself so stressed about work as your perfectionist streak keeps you pushing through, putting in extra hours to ‘get more done’, even though you’re exhausted? Or maybe it’s the constant worry about your grown children, and the extra care you find you’re needing to give to your elderly parents – you're not alone!

I’m willing to bet that in some of these situations you’re not stepping back to consider your underlying values and whether this behaviour reflects what you want and believe in. When is the last time you asked yourself what you were passionate about?

Living a life with purpose means that the choices you make, including how you choose to spend your time each day, are aligned with your values.

What are the Benefits of Living with Purpose?

When you’re aware of what matters most to you and intentional about living for a purpose, there are tangible benefits.

Living with purpose is good for your mental health.

Knowing your purpose helps you find balance in life, which contributes to less stress and anxiety, and increased gratitude, self-compassion, and contentment.

And your purpose doesn’t have to be huge to be life-changing. Small but consistent can also be life-changing!

Living with purpose improves your physical health.

Studies show that when you are in tune with your purpose and living according to your values, you are more likely to have healthier habits. You’re less likely to engage in harmful behaviours such as indulging in unhealthy food and drinks and more likely to exercise. You’ll also have more restful sleep since you are not stressed or anxious.

Living with purpose eases the transition during big life changes.

Even if you once knew your purpose, that purpose may change as you age. It’s normal to feel a bit lost or lose enthusiasm for life during big life changes, like when you retire or change a career, end a marriage, lose a loved one, or have grown children leave home.

Times like this call for a self-inquiry to discover what you’re passionate about and chart a path forward for a new chapter in your life.

Having a purpose ensures you spend your time on what really matters.

When you take the time to look within and figure out what you value, you gain clarity on how best to spend your time. You don’t want to wake up one day later in life and feel like the last few years or even decades were a waste of time. You want to be able to look back and be satisfied that you spent time doing the things you really care about with the people you love.

Need Some Help Reconnecting with Yourself?

Treating yourself to a yoga and meditation retreat can give you the quiet and headspace you need to reconnect with what you truly want and set you on course to be happier and healthier.

Think about how relaxed and clear-headed you feel after one session of yoga. Unfortunately, this calm feeling often disappears all too quickly as you leave the mat and step back into your role nurturing others.

That’s why taking time-out from your normal schedule to focus entirely on YOU is a must. You might think about quality time as something to spend with friends and family. But what about spending intentional quality time nourishing your relationship with the Self?

Yoga retreats are called retreats because they are just that- a retreat from your normal life. A chance to pause, reflect, and reevaluate. You get to be fully present (not worrying about what you’re cooking for dinner in the back of your mind).

Being away from your normal routine gives you the chance to reconnect with your inner self. That may mean reaffirming what you already know or reigniting a long-buried passion

Re-discover yourself by taking a journey of self-inquiry with me at my upcoming retreats where you will:

  • Have the time and space to look inward and reflect on your values, purpose, and what brings you joy…you may be inspired to start something new or do something you love when you get home.

  • Do regular yoga and meditation practices that recharge your body, mind, and soul

  • Nourish your body with healthy and delicious food

  • Get to know yourself better...or even discover another version of yourself

  • Learn tools to keep the practice going in your daily life so that you prioritise your needs once you return home

  • Meet new people who could become lifelong friends

In your day-to-day life, you are fulfilling different roles- mother, wife, sister, co-worker, caregiver. Getting away from it all to focus only on you can help you rekindle old passions, hobbies, or desires.

A retreat can give you a transformational sense of connection to yourself so that it becomes clear what you need to do to be the healthiest and happiest version of you
