How to Celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is upon us once again, which gives us a chance to reflect on the progress made and the challenges remaining when it comes to women in society. But it’s also a chance to reflect on your own well-being.

If you’re a woman, you are likely expected to be the caregiver in your family, your parents and are probably also in the role of providing emotional support to your partner. Unfortunately, it’s all too easy to give and give and wind up being exhausted, stressed, and lacking the energy to nurture yourself. I’m going to share with you why it’s so important to put yourself first and tell you about an exciting opportunity to do so!

The Theme for International Women’s Day 2023

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th and is a day when women from diverse backgrounds all over the globe unite in promoting the message that “women’s rights are human rights!”. A new theme is chosen each year, and this year it’s ‘Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future’.

Purple, green, and white are colours that have been used to symbolize women’s equality since the early 1900s, and you may have noticed that those also happen to be the colours for Yoga for the Soul Retreats. Purple represents justice and dignity, while green represents hope. As a mental health and wellness coach, I can tell you that as long as there is hope there is a way to find your way back to inner peace and happiness!

Stress Takes a Toll on Your Physical Health, and Women Suffer the Most

While stress can be helpful at times, when you’re constantly in a flight-or-flight response, it can have a variety of damaging impacts. It affects not only your mental and emotional health, but also your physical health.

The hormones released when you’re in a constant state of stress can impact the immune system, which not only makes you more susceptible to colds, but may also put you at risk for developing an autoimmune disorder such as arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. Women are much more likely to be affected by autoimmune diseases than men.

A disproportionate amount of unpaid work falls on women. This term refers to work that is done in a household for family members, such as housework, childcare, elderly care, and more.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was largely women who bore the burden of caregiving, whether that meant leaving work to supervise children who had to stay at home or juggling demanding remote work responsibilities with childcare. As well as caring for elderly parents. It’s no wonder so many women are facing increased stress, overwhelm, burnout and sleeplessness!

Taking care of your physical, spiritual, and mental health is not a luxury…it is absolutely essential for enjoying a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. As someone who has experienced burnout and found my way back to health, I know how important it is to take care of your mental health. This International Women’s Day, I encourage you to prioritise your wellbeing.

Whether you know you are burnt out or you are experiencing stress and want to avoid it, there’s a way to restore balance in your life. Practicing meditation, breathing exercises, gentle physical activity, and talk therapy can all help manage stress.

Having an experienced coach like myself who specializes in emotional and mental health guide you through the process of self-inquiry is a powerful way to look within and discover how to align your values and your actions so that you can live a life feeling calm, connected and filled with purpose and joy. I’m passionate about empowering women to live a purposeful, joyful, and peaceful life and am happy to provide a complimentary 20-minute chat so you can learn what support is available to you.
